Non-Verbal Communication and KOPPACT

Lets talk about Non-Verbal Communication and KOPPACT. Communication is the process of sharing meaningful information among people.

It is not just about talking but also about listening to the conveyed information and giving feedback.

Therefore communication is a two-way process. Communication happens in two ways- verbal and non-verbal.

  • Verbal Communication- This is the oral or written form of communication wherein words are conveyed and feedback is received in the same format. Verbal communication is a direct form of communication.
  • Non-Verbal Communication- If you think that verbal communication is what conveys the entire essence of your conversation then you are wrong.

The majority of your ideas and emotions are established through non-verbal communication.

Verbal Communications

If non-verbal communication does not match the verbal one, then the entire process of communication is disrupted.

Now when we say non-verbal communication, people assume that it is just about body language, but actually, it is not. Non-verbal communication contains many other factors and specifically KOPPACT-

  • Kinesics (K)- This includes physical actions like postures, gestures, body language, facial expressions, or hand and head movement.

Such actions are usually done to lay emphasis on whatever has been said. In the case of non-verbal experiments, facial expressions matter a lot. They comprise 55% of the entire non-verbal communication process.

Gestures

Then the body postures reflect people’s interest, their attitude, their emotions, and their intentions.

Open postures favor the communication process since such people are active speakers and listeners while closed postures reverse the process.

Gestures are a part of our everyday life, be it nodding our head, waving our hand, or giving certain expressions.

But there are certain cultural barriers in the process of communicating through gestures.

Body Language

The gestures may mean differently in different regions of the country therefore they must be understood clearly before being communicated through.

These gestures are also of three types- adaptive, conversational, and symbolic.

  • Oculesics (O)- It deals with eye contact made while communicating.

Imagine you are talking to someone and your eyes are in some other direction rather than focusing on the person you are talking to.

This hints at the disinterest of the person and does not achieve the purpose of communication.

Making eye contact reflects the confidence level of the person who is speaking. It serves three important purposes- first, it helps people know when it is their turn to speak.

Thus the person gets a hint that it is their turn to speak.

Eye Contact

Secondly, eye contact helps to send and receive feedback. When you look at someone, especially while listening, it indicates that you are interested in the conversation and when you listen attentively you may also face no difficulties in giving feedback.

Contrarily, when you don’t like a person and try to avoid conversation with him, you usually turn your gaze and the size of the pupil is reduced.

  • Proxemics (P)- It is the spatial distance between two people communicating. It may involve embraces, touching and whispering and eventually hints at the relationship shared by the individuals.

Para-language (P) – It basically deals with the tone and pitch of our sentence.

Even pitch may act as an important factor here. High pitch may indicate importance of the words you are saying in that pitch while the one on low pitch may indicate disinterest.

But don’t misinterpret them the other way round. For example if s student needs help in homework from his brother, he cannot go and ask for it in a high pitch.

  • Artifacts (A)- It is the way we look. It is important to dress up in a right manner according to the situation since it establishes our first impression very well.

Impress People

It highlights the ways one carries oneself and can help impress people.

So next time you are up for any presentation in your college and you are presenting a graded assignment, make sure you dress well- that adds to your skills and offers you assignment help.

  • Chronemics (C)- It refers to the timing of your speech. When you are speaking your words must be in proper flow and synchronization.

This is especially important when you are working on your presentation or assignment. Proper timing while speaking would do the needful and provide assignment help.

Even emotions should be conveyed at the right time to establish a connection with the audience.

  • Touch or Haptics (T)- This is usually done to make people comfortable in the conversation.

But it serves both, a positive as well as a negative function- positive when your touch reassures someone and negative when you touch a person you are not very close to and that touch causes discomfort to the other person.

KOPPACT is a very essential tool of non-verbal communication. It conveys what words cannot. KOPPACT may help you achieve through your words whatever you want.

Now, this can be something as difficult as convincing your elder brother for help in homework.
