What is Regina Saskatchewan famous for?

Regina is not only the capital but also the second-largest city in Saskatchewan. The city is located in the south-central part of Wascana Creek, making it a wonderful oasis with the nearby Saskatchewan Legislative Building. The stream gave the town its character, which emerged as a hunting camp and was known as the “Pile O’Bones” for the piles of bones leftover from the buffalo peeling and cutting.

Regina was founded in 1882. as a European settlement. The name “Regina” is a feminine name of late Latin meaning “queen”.

Visit the Saskatchewan Legislative Building

The Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly is the legislative building of the Saskatchewan Province. The building is at 2405 Legislative Dr, Regina. The complex was built between 1908 and 1912. and was built in the style of Beaux-Arts, Edward, and William Sutherland Maxwell of Montreal.

It is definitely worth taking a tour of the Legislative Building on your own. A tour of the building’s frescoes, rooms, and historical notes will take 30-45 minutes.

Behind the building are beautiful gardens and statues. In 2005 an exclusive equestrian statue of Queen Elizabeth II was unveiled here, standing in front of Queen Elizabeth II’s gardens. The statue depicts the queen of Burma and her favorite horse.

On the east side of the building, you will find a fountain, one of two brought from London’s Trafalgar Square. The building complex is recognized as one of Canada’s national historic sites, as well as a provincial heritage property in 1978.

Admire the Wascana Downtown Park

The center of Wascana is a large city park in Regina. It is built around the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and Lake Wascana and is a great place to take a stroll and stroll by the lake.

Study at the Royal Museum of Saskatchewan (RSM)

The Royal Museum of Saskatchewan is a museum of natural history in Regina. The museum had a modest start as a provincial museum. It is the first museum in Saskatchewan and the first provincial museum in the three prairie provinces, so we highly recommend visiting it.

In the museum, you can visit various galleries from dinosaurs, and life sciences to the history of the first peoples.

Visit Stone Hall Castle

Stone Hall is the only medieval-style castle in Canada. This medieval-style castle in Regina (about a 5-minute walk from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum) is also a hotel. Here you can book accommodation or go on a guided tour of the castle’s interiors.

If you plan to stay overnight, you will have access to a dining room, a private cinema, and an indoor pool. This is a very nice place for an Instagram shot in Regina.

Visit the Regina Floral Conservatory

The RCMP Heritage Center is a law enforcement museum that displays exhibits, history, and information from the Royal Canadian Riding Police. Its history dates back to 1873, and since then artifacts have been exhibited to this day in Mountie.

Stroll around the center of Regina

We love walking downtown and Regina is no different. It is the commercial center of the city with its office buildings, cute cafes, and shopping center.

The city center also has great bars, lounges, restaurants, and live music. In the evening, head to the surrounding area for a pizza or delicious Asian dishes. There is a beautiful leafy park in the city center, which turns into an ice rink in winter.

And that beautiful park is Victoria Park. The park is named after Queen Victoria. Located in the neighborhood of the city center, this park is a beautiful oasis with lots of greenery in the middle of the city jungle.

This square was originally separated (barren and without trees) in 1883. It has been upgraded with lots of trees, a Regina Cenotaph, and a children’s playground (on the south side of the park). Here in the park, you will also find a statue of Sir John A. Macdonald.

Go to the hotel in Saskatchewan

Close to Wascana Downtown Park is the beautiful, magnificent Saskatchewan Hotel. This hotel is a historic property and was one of Canada’s largest railroad hotels. It is in the heart of the Regina, overlooking the city’s Victoria Park.

Today, the Saskatchewan Hotel is part of the Marriott International network. You have to stop there to have afternoon tea or even spend the night. They have beautiful rooms with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, a TV, a living room, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Rooms have a separate seating area, and many have a jacuzzi.

Spend time in the Warehouse area

If you want to shop and stay in a chic area, visit the Warehouse area. There are more than 600 businesses in the area, all of which are local and run.

Another beautiful Beaux-Arts style building in Regina, formerly a train station. The Union Station was built between 1911 and 1912. 1990 after the railway closed at the end, the station was turned into a casino. The free station was also designated a heritage site in Saskatchewan.

The casino is owned and operated by Sask Gaming and inside it is really nice. It has around 800 slot machines, 35 table games, and a 9-table poker room. There are restaurants (train car) as well as the CPR Lounge and VIP Lounge. You can also go on historic tours of Union Station here to explore the site.

Visit the Cathedral of the Holy Rosary

The Cathedral of the Holy Rosary in the church of the Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Regina. The church was built in 1912, and since then it has been greatly supplemented and improved. It is one of the Romanesque revival architectural styles in the province.
