Sedan segment in India is currently the least popular. And the Indian car makers know that as they have avoided launching new sedans in the Indian car market recently. However, in 2022 there are a few launching sedan cars in India and the companies are hoping people to consider buying them due to the overcrowded SUV car space in India.
Here are the Top 5 upcoming sedan cars in India 2022:
1- 2022 Skoda Slavia:
Skoda will launch the upcoming 2022 Skoda Slavia sedan on February 23. This will be the first new car in the sedan segment in nearly two years. The 2022 Slavia is based on Skoda’s famed MQB-A0 IN platform, which underpins the popular Skoda Kushaq SUV in India.
The Skoda Slavia 2022 will replace the ageing Skoda Rapid sedan in India and is a bold step taken by the Swedish auto giant in its India 2.0 plan, as they are set to gamble on the dying sedan segment in India.
The company has revealed slavia earlier and looks striking with a sleek and angular design, in-line with the global Skoda sedan design language. It will have best-in-class wheelbase, meaning good rear legroom.
The upcoming sedan cars will also come fully loaded with features such as, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, wireless charging, 6 airbags, ESC and much more. It will be powered by two petrol engines only.
The 1.0L TSI, turbo petrol engine makes 115hp and 178nm of torque. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L TSI, turbo petrol makes 150hp and 250nm torque. It comes mated to 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic gearboxes.
The expected 2022 Skoda Slavia price in India is between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. And the car will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz starting price Rs 8.87 lakh, Hyundai Verna starting price Rs 9.32 lakh and the Honda City starting price Rs 11.23 lakh.
2- Mercedes Maybach S Class:
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class India launch will be on March 3 as reported by us earlier and this will be one of the block-buster launches in the sedan segment in India in 2022.
Mercedes had launched the all-new Mercedes S Class price Rs 1.58 crore in India last year and will be following it with its flagship luxury sedan, the 2022 Mercedes Benz Maybach S Class, which will be a level above, the already outlandish and opulent standard S Class.
The standard S Class is a long car but Mercedes Benz also offers an elongated, long-wheel base version, but the, Maybach S Class will eclipse both of them in terms of length as it will be 180mm longer than the long-wheel base version of the standard S Class sedan, which will make the cabin space ultra-roomy with the rear seat passengers getting maximum legroom for that added comfort and feel (as if the standard S Class feels cramped).
The German auto maker will offer the iconic two-tone Maybach paint scheme and plenty of chrome, with interior features including, individual reclining rear seats, called the ‘executive’ seats with in-built massage functions, powered rear doors, rear passenger infotainment screens, active road noise cancellation system and many more ultra-luxury features.
The biggest change will be the fact that the Maybach S Class will be locally assembled which will keep the costs down as the Mercedes Maybach S Class S 580 will have a 4.0L, twin-turbo V8 motor, making 500hp.
Mercedes may also bring the more powerful Maybach S Class S 680 variant, which has a 6.0L, V12 motor, making 612hp as a CBU in India. The expected Mercedes Maybach S Class price in India is Rs 2.3 crore to Rs 2.9 crore.
The more powerful, S 680 version with a 612hp, 6.0-litre V12 engine, may be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit.
3- 2022 Volkswagen Virtus – One of the Upcoming Sedan Cars:
2022 Volkswagen Virtus sedan will launch after the Skoda Slavia, which is essentially a re-badged Slavia. The company has heavily re-designed the Virtus to be in line with its line-up.
It will replace the Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market and will be larger than the Vento. The Virtus will be less in your face, in its design but in no way outdated. It will be favoured by buyers who prefer more subtler looks. 2022 Virtus will be feature loaded just like its sister car. It will get 10-inch touchscreen infotainment, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats and many other comfort features like the Slavia.
The Virtus also gets two turbo petrol engines. The 1.0L TSI engine makes 115hp and 1.5L TSI makes 150hp. The transmission options are also similar in both cars. The 1.0L engine has 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor auto gearboxes. The 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox are for the 1.5L.
The 2022 Volkswagen Virtus will be revealed on March 8, as covered by us earlier and rival the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and its sibling the Skoda Slavia, with the expected Volkswagen Virtus price in India to be between Rs 12 lakh to Rs16 lakh with it commanding a slight premium over the Slavia.
4- 2022 Honda City Hybrid:
Honda has been struggling off late in India. But its Amaze facelift and the evergreen City sedan has helped it make an upturn in fortunes. The Japanese car maker will launch the Honda City Hybrid in India in 2022.
The Honda City hybrid in the international markets has a 1.5L petrol engine and an electric motor making 109hp. Due to which the City hybrid can run on electric power alone.
This may increase the fuel efficiency of the sedan to over 20kmpl. This will make it on par with even smaller cars in India. This means that there will be a significant price hike for the car.
Honda is may launch the 2022 City hybrid in mid-2022. The expected 2022 Honda City Hybrid price in India to be around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh.
5- 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class:
Mercedes Benz has a slew of launches planned this year in India. The sixth gen Mercedes Benz C Class launch in India scheduled for later this year. It is to be noted that the company launched the new C Class in 2021. Its design was more in line with the bigger Mercedes Benz E Class and S Class.
The new design makes it sharper with shorter overhangs and angular design. It will also have a 25mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing model. Meaning more rear seat legroom.
The interiors are based on the S Class with dual touchscreens on the dash and digital instrument cluster. There are also multiple luxury comfort and safety features.
Company has not released Engine details but will come with mild hybrid option. The sportier AMG variant will be launched after the launch in late 2022.
Expected Mercedes Benz C Class price in India will be around Rs 45 lakh to 54 lakh and the sedan will continue to rival the Audi A4 price Rs 39.99 lakh, the BMW 3 Series price Rs 45.40 lakh and Jaguar XE price Rs 46.64 lakh in India.
