The never-ending demand for quality education in our country has led to an increase in people wishing to start a school. Another reason for the popularity of the same is that investing time and money in this field always gets you profitable returns. Not just monetary profit, it also ears you lot of respect in the society.

When you set up a school, you do not just put in efforts to build the structure which is in the form of classrooms, libraries and laboratories, you also need to get the permissions as well as licenses from the concerned authorities at various stages. It is also important to keep in mind that private individuals cannot set up a school just like that. You need to set up a trust or society that have members – a minimum of five to six governing board members.

Process of Registration of School

The recent pandemic has shown everyone that no matter what the situation is, the field of education is never going to shut down. In fact it is one of the few industries in our country that is most promising. The need for quality education is ever increasing and recently the requirement of pre primary and elementary schools has seen a rise. This is because primary schools form the backbone of children’s childhood.

Opening a school in India for young children is of great benefit both for you and the society. It is the formative years that matter the most and if children are given the right kind of headstart in the beginning, they will be able to take up any kind of situation head on later in life. Whether the school that you want to set up is elementary or senior, to ensure the smooth functioning of your school, you must keep in mind the steps mentioned below so that you can get the registration done.

1. Setting up a society

The first step if you want to know how to start a school, then you need to form a society or a trust consisting of five or six members. The members must have a President, Chairperson and Secretary. These people will be responsible for keeping a check on the operations of the society or trust. They will also have to get it registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Indian Trust Act, 1882 respectively. An important step that you must keep in mind while forming a trust or society, you must first create a Memorandum of Association – which is a document that is required at almost every stage later.

2. Search for the land

The next step that is required after you set up a society and get it registered, is looking for the land. The land can belong to the society or the trust or can also be bought from the Government. Make sure that you get the No Objection certificate (NOC) signed and stamped by the Department of Education which shall then verify the school requirements in that particular area. If you buy the land from the Government, then you need an Essentiality Certificate from the Department of Education of the concerned state.

3. Send it to Land owning agencies

After obtaining the Essentiality Certificate, you must forward it to the concerned land owning agencies such as MCD or DDA for the allotment of the land. Only after the land is allotted can the school be established. There is a condition that comes with the EC and that is that the construction should begin with three years, failing which the society will have to reapply for the same. This is one of the most crucial steps in opening a school in India.

4. Begin the construction and apply for recognition

Once you get the NOC, then you must start with the process of construction. After the completion of the school building, the next crucial step is applying for recognition from the concerned authority. For classes upto fifth, the municipality grants recognition and for all classes above till eight, the Department of Education grants recognition. For all other higher classes, the recognition is granted by the DoE however, only after a gap of two years.

5. Keep the details of the land

The final and most essential steps in the process to open a school in India is following the guidelines prescribed by the Board, and keep the books, syllabus in accordance with it, you must keep the details of the land and the building with you. Along with this you must also keep with you the bank statements and the auditors statements. You also need to have the consent for water, hygiene and all other basic amenities from the concerned authorities.

Follow these important steps in order to get your school registered and establish it as a well functioning entity for children. We hope this blog answered all your questions.
