How to Style Funky and Colourful Socks

Colourful socks have been a popular men’s fashion accessory in recent years. In fact, they’ve grown so fashionable that men are signing up for funky socks subscriptions. The days of wearing white socks as a fashion statement are over.

With the growth in popularity of crazy socks, one commonly asked question is how to wear multi-coloured socks. Here are a few styling suggestions for selecting the right colourful socks for each outfit.

Wear Colourful Socks Whenever Dressing Casually

If you’re dressed up for a casual event (heading out, casual Friday at office), let your creativity go wild when it comes to choosing a pair of socks. When it comes to wearing multi-coloured socks, there aren’t any “rules.”

If the most of your ensemble is drab and lacks any statement elements, add a fancy pair of socks with a wacky design. If you’re ever in doubt, imagine how you’d react if a colleague or friend wore the same pair of socks as yourself.

Socks should be coordinated with your outfit

Socks should match the rest of your clothing, depending on whether you’re going for a casual, semi-formal, or formal event. Casual occasions call for crazier, more colourful socks. Semi-formal (or business casual) environments may nonetheless permit slightly crazy (but somewhat tamed) socks.

In more formal settings (complete suit and tie), keep the colour of your socks consistent with the colour of your jacket or tie.

Colourful Socks to Go with Your Pants

Try and match your socks to your trousers for a more coherent look. You can locate socks that are the same primary colour as your pants, or you can go a couple of tones away from them.

Blue socks, for instance, go well with blue jeans, and grey socks go well with beige chinos. Noisier and more colourful socks, on the other hand, are more enjoyable to wear – don’t be afraid to try things with crazy patterns and colours when combining socks with jeans!

Don’t Show Too Much Sock

Another new trend in male fashion is the constant shortening of men’s pants. Men are tucking their pants up and up and up, exposing more of your socks.

However, one thing to avoid is making it appear as if your pants aren’t a decent fit (and showing too much stock in the process). Make sure your jeans are hemmed properly. They will look even better with your funky socks!

Be Wary of Contrasting Colours

While brightly coloured socks are now the standard, avoid wearing socks that are horribly out of place with your attire. For instance, if you’re sporting olive green chinos, avoid wearing flashy red socks (unless it’s the holiday season!).

If your socks conflict too much with rest of your clothing, the whole thing will seem goofy.

Choose Your Patterns Wisely

If the rest of your clothing is particularly loud and patterned, it may be best to avoid patterns on your socks. Furthermore, the pattern on your pants may conflict with the design on your socks. Don’t forget to take a step back and look at your outfit as a whole to see if there are any components that could conflict!

Another thing to keep in mind while selecting a suitable design is the setting. Patterned burger socks, like more colourful socks, may not be ideal for a particularly professional suit-and-tie meeting.
