How to choose the best D2R Ladder Items – here is a complete guide

Now that you’ve chosen to compete in the Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder, one of your important goals must be to quickly gain more XP to level up your character, so that your ID has the potential to appear on the leaderboards. But the process is more complicated than you might think. First of all, the D2R Ladder is the same as the standard game, and contains 3 difficulties – from Normal to Hell, the enemies on higher difficulties will bring you a deadly threat. To fight powerful enemies, you obviously need better D2R Ladder Items to arm yourself. But the best set items and unique items in the game are only come from those high-level monsters that have a higher drop chance. In order to find a balance between them, you need to learn to improve your defense abilities through various means, so that you can live longer.

Invest more points into Vitality

This applies to all classes in the game, as this is the most important way to increase your character’s life in the game. For different classes, the ratio of Vitality to life is different, and the melee class usually gets better benefits from it. Of course, for ranged or caster classes, it is still necessary to add all the points to Vitality, in addition to meeting some item stat requirements. More life gives you more chances to make mistakes.

Defense can help you reduce the chance of being hit

It’s worth noting that, unlike most games, defense in D2R don’t directly reduce the physical damage you take, but reduce your chance of being hit by an enemy (minimum 5%, maximum 95%).

Defense is a very useful stat for melee classes such as Barbarian and Paladin, as these classes have traits that allow them to gain more bonuses from defense. On the top of that, these fighters inevitably engage in melee combat with the enemy, only higher defenses can effectively reduce attack damage from the enemy. And for those classes that use ranged spells, defense doesn’t make them last longer under the attack of a large number of monsters.

In conclusion, if you’re a melee class, you can’t go wrong with finding high defense armor that matches your current level at each stage.

Block can further increase your survivability

When the enemy’s attack successfully passes through the defense and hits you, your Block attribute has a maximum chance of 75% to invalidate the attack. Dexterity directly affects your Block chance, the higher your level, the more points you need to invest in Dexterity to improve Block.

Getting a good shield is important. At this point, Paladin has a big advantage: with the Holy Shield buff, the class can easily reach Maxblock with very little investment, which is a 75% chance of blocking.

Also, if you have a socket on your shield, you can also increase its block chance by inserting an Eld rune into it. This saves you a lot of allocable points.

Damage Reduced by X% is still useful

Damage Reduced by X% reduces the damage you take if an enemy’s physical attack hits you and is not blocked, up to a value of 50%. For example, if an enemy’s attack deals 100 physical damage and you have Damage Reduced by 50%, you end up taking 50 damage. From this point of view, the effect of this attribute is not as big as defense and block. However, when conditions permit, I still recommend you Buy D2R Ladder Items that provide Damage Reduced by X% attributes as much as possible to enhance your character’s survivability.

Resistances keep you from dying instantly in monster spells

If you were to list some important methods of survival in the game, increasing your resistances is obviously one of them. By the way, your base resistances drops to -50% and -100% when you head to higher difficulty(Nightmare and Hell), please change better items if you can. Normally, 75% elemental resistances are enough to get you through a lot of danger. But if you find something that increases your Maximum Resistance, you can further reduce the specific elemental damage you might take. You can increase the cap of resistances up to 95%, but you can’t be immune to elemental damage by reaching 100% Maximum Resistance. That’s why I don’t recommend you spend too much time improving this stat because it’s not worth it.

Life Steal is useful for classes dealing physical damage

Life Steal can greatly extend survival time and reduce potion consumption for melee and ranged classes that kill enemies with physical damage. You have to deal physical damage to the enemy with a melee or missile weapon in order to steal some life from this attack to restore your own health. Not only that, but Life Steal’s effectiveness on higher difficulties will also be reduced to 50% (Nightmare) and 33% (Hell) of the original.

It’s worth noting that different types of enemies have different resistances to Life Steal, and you can’t steal life from Skeletons. However, if you cast Life Tap Curse on a monster, you can steal 50% of life from all physical damage dealt to the monster while the curse is in effect, unless your target is immune to physical damage.

There are also classes in the game that have special survival mechanics, such as Assassin and Amazon, which we’ll cover in detail in a future guide. Hopefully, this article has made your adventure in the D2R ladder easier and smoother.
